Age Groups
How do I determine what age group my child
plays in?
We use the United States Youth Soccer Association standards. It’s
based on the child’s age on August 1. Example: If your child is 8 on August
1 then they will be considered a U9 (Under 9) player.
I don’t see my child’s age
group in the on-line registration. What group does my child play with?
We round up our age groups to the even numbered ages. Example: U7 plays
in U8, U9 plays in U10, etc.
Season
When does the season start?
The games for the fall season usually start the 1st or 2nd weekend
of September and the games for the spring season usually start 2nd or 3rd weekend
of April.
How long is the season?
A season for all divisions, except for tots, lasts about 7-10 weeks.
Coaching
When will I hear from a coach?
A coach should contact a parent/guardian of each player on their team
within 1 week after the coach meeting.
When is the coach meeting?
The coaching meeting is setup by the commissioner of the league. The
meeting usually takes place about 1 month before the 1st game of the season. At
this meeting is where the coach receives the information about their team. Also,
this meeting covers divisional rules and procedures and general information. This
is a mandatory meeting for coaches.
Where can I hold practice?
MHYSA has to have insurance on all fields where practices and games
are played. Do not practice on a field if it is not on the Approved Practice &
Game Locations list. If the practice location is not listed on the Approved Practice
& Game Locations list you must contact the club president to get permission
to use that location for practice. (click here to view approved practice and
game locations)
Practices
When does practice start?
Practices usually start a couple weeks before the games start. A coach
should contact you after the coaching meeting has taken place which is usually about
a month before the first game of the season.
What is the frequency of practice per
week?
The number of times your child will practice is determined by the coach.
As a guideline the younger divisions (U8 and younger) usually will only practice
once per week whereas the older divisions (U10 and above) may practice twice
a week.
Where do they practice?
Your child’s coach sets the day(s) of the week, times and where
they would like to practice.
What does my child need to bring for practice?
- Shin guards (a must) - Your child must have
shin guards. If your child does not have shin guards then they will have to
sit out of practice until they have them on.
- Cleats
- Appropriate size ball (refer to the Basic Rules sheet for the correct size ball
for your child to use)
- Water/Sports drink (try to have your child drink water
15 minutes before the start of practice)
- NO JEWELRY can be worn (watches, earrings, necklaces,
bracelets, etc.)
Games
Where are the games played?
The Tots, U6 and U8 play all games at the Red Oaks Soccer Complex.
The U10 division will play home games at the Red Oaks Soccer Complex and the away
games will be played in the surrounding cities. U12 and up will play home games
at Ambassador Park or Civic Center Park and the away games will be played in the
surrounding cities.
Click here for locations, directions and maps to fields.
What is the frequency of games per week?
For the Tots there is only 1 session a week. Usually, there is only
1 game a week but there are occasions where there is a weekday game or a Saturday
and Sunday game.
What days of the week are the games played?
Most divisions have games that are played on the weekend (Saturday
or Sunday) with an occasional weekday game. The Tots program will always play on
Saturday starting at 10am. The U6 and U8 divisions most games are played on Saturday
between 11am and 1pm. The U10 and up divisions could play either Saturday or Sunday
with different start times.
What does my child need to bring on game
day?
- Shin guards (a must) - Your child must have
shin guards. If your child does not have shin guards then they will have to
sit out of practice until they have them on.
- Cleats
- Both blue and yellow jerseys.
- Water/Sports drink (try to have your child drink water
15 minutes before the start of practice)
- NO JEWELRY can be worn (watches, earrings, necklaces,
bracelets, etc.)
How do I know when games are canceled?
Whether you think your game is going to be canceled or not ALWAYS SHOW
UP TO YOUR SCHEDULED GAME UNLESS YOU RECEIVE NOTICE FROM YOUR COACH OR VIA THE MHYSA
WEB SITE (www.mhysa.net). In the U10 and above divisions only the referee can cancel a game,
unless the club where the game is being played canceled all games for that particular
field. Also, just because games are canceled at another club’s fields doesn’t
mean that other clubs have canceled their games on their fields. So the best bet
is to contact your coach and if you don’t hear from your coach then show up
to the field.

Registration
Can I request my child to be on a certain
team?
You will be given an opportunity to request a specific team or ask
for your child to be placed with another child during registration. Please be sure
to specify a 2nd choice in case your 1st choice is not possible. We will try to
accommodate your request if possible, but we cannot guarantee
all requests. Roster limits are strictly enforced by MHYSA.
Coaches and parents may not assign players to a team, and coaches may not promise
open roster spots to specific players. Only the Registrar, Divisional Manager, during
the team formation, may place players on teams. The Board of Directors has the final
say on matters concerning registration requests.
When are teams formed?
We start to form teams about month and half before the season begins.
We need to form teams early because we also need to find a coach for teams that
do not have a coach assigned to the team. We try to get all the teams formed before
the coach’s meeting which is usually 1 month before the season begins.
Can I pay by credit card?
You can only use a credit card for payment if you register on-line.
Do I have to use a credit card to pay
for registration?
No, but our on-line registration process only accepts credit cards
and checks (have to mail to the PO BOX). If you prefer to pay by cash you will need
to attend one of our in-person dates or make arraignments with the Registrar to
deliver the payment (click
here to email the Registrar)
Where do I send my check/money order to?
Make your check or money order payable to MHYSA and send it to:
